Initial Ideas - Concept Two

During the film era, if you wanted to see the photos you had taken, you had to get them developed and printed. The necessity to turn the photos into something physical was lost with the introduction of digital, as we could conveniently consume the photos instantly on rear camera screen.

Concept 2 focuses on recreating a modern physical counterpart to the photos we take. The design utilises ultra low cost, low capacity micro SD cards which have limited photo capacity similar to roll film, requiring the user to be selective about their shots. These cards can then be kept in a physical album, rather than formatted and reused. This keeps sets of photos together and prevents them from becoming unfindable due to being buried in hard drive or cloud based storage.

To ensure all the emphasis is placed on the photo as a physical and valuable item, the camera is designed to be technically unassuming. Rather than focus on techspecs, beautiful simplistic body design and use of tactile materials like satin finish aluminium and soft leather help the user develop a relationship with the camera, in a similar way to watches and wallets. By building an emotional connection with the device, the images taken by it should also inherit emotional value.
