The design of my camera is fairly simplistic and replied heavily on beautiful materials and detailing. In my prototypes for the degree shows, I wish to show off a models which represents my design as closely as possible. Real materials with minimal design compromise.
One of the main features of the design are the dual control dials. Having discussed many different potential internal and outsourced manufacturing methods, I have settled on CNC milling the parts in our internal engineering workshop. Each dial is made identically, with numerical values to be added as a post process. The dials are milled from 90x90x15 aluminium blocks, with location points allowing to to sit within a jig secured to the bed of the machine. This allows the front face of the dial to be completed before reversing the part and cutting the rear details. The cutting of the front faces, which involves a rough pass with a 6mm flat end bit and a finishing pass with a 3mm round end bit, can be seen in the video and images shown above and below:
