The presentation of my two prototype cameras is based around something I recently saw from Japanese camera manufacturer FujiFilm. They collaborated with luxury British suitcase manufacturer Globe-Trotter to present their limited edition camera models in beautiful cases for sale in Harrods [see official EU press release link]. Inspired by this style of presentation, I will be presenting both the working and the visual models in my own Globe-Trotter case fitted out with foam inserts and a plaque with logos and a brief description of the project. This case will serve as the presentation at both the DMU Degree show as well as the New Designers show in London this July.
Below are a couple of photos of the foam being cut to size. Although the photos show the Hurco CNC milling machine cutting parts out, the majority of the foam was actually laser cut to ensure neat heat sealed edges. The two cameras are presented on the left while the engraved aluminium plaque will sit flush on the left covering a small recess where the USB A/V cable will be stored. The camera body sits flush with the top, allowing only the lens surround to protrude, helping make the presentation less flat. The brightness of the satin aluminium should also stand out nicely against the dark foam and black finish of the hand made case.
